Say Goodbye to Spider Veins and Varicose Veins Before Summer

If you have spider veins or varicose veins, you’re not alone -- they affect between 30-60% of adults. Fortunately, there are easy ways to treat them, depending on which condition you have and the severity.

Spider veins versus varicose veins

It’s usually easy to differentiate between spider veins and varicose veins by appearance alone.

Spider veins

Spider veins typically create thin blue, red, or purple patterns that twist and turn, taking on a weblike appearance. You can have spider veins anywhere on your body, but they’re most common on your face and legs.

Varicose veins

Unlike the fine webs you see with spider veins, varicose veins often appear as larger raised, swollen, rope-like veins. You can also have varicose veins in several areas of your body, but they’re most common in the legs.

These vein disorders typically occur when one or more valves in a blood vessel close to the surface of your skin becomes weakened or damaged, which allows blood to pool in the area or branch off in new directions.

Understanding their cause

You may have been told in the past that you shouldn’t cross your legs or spend a lot of time standing, or you’d get varicose veins. While those factors can certainly increase your chances of developing these vein issues, other things can predispose you as well, including:

In most cases, spider veins are primarily a cosmetic issue, whereas varicose veins can cause additional symptoms, like pain, aching, cramping, or heaviness in the legs.

At GYN Aesthetics & Wellness, our skilled team offers several treatment options so you can make your problematic veins a distant memory and relieve any unpleasant symptoms at the same time.

Treating spider veins and varicose veins

In the past, treating vein conditions, especially varicose veins, involved painful treatments and lengthy downtimes. Fortunately, we’ve come a long way since those days.

Laser therapy

When it comes to treating spider veins, we often recommend ThreeForMe™ laser treatments that use heat energy. This technique works to erase your unsightly spider veins by permanently damaging the vessels with faulty blood flow. Your body absorbs the treated blood vessels and your spider veins fade from view.

This treatment is a safe, gentle, and minimally invasive approach that takes approximately 30 minutes. It also comes with little (if any) downtime.

This common treatment involves injecting a special agent into your unwanted veins. This solution causes irritation inside the vein, which causes it to close off, shrivel up, and be reabsorbed into your body. We often use this treatment for spider veins, but it can also help eliminate large varicose veins as well.

After having sclerotherapy, you usually wear a compression bandage or compression stockings for up to two weeks to help reduce swelling, promote healthy circulation, and support the healing process. Sclerotherapy usually takes 3-5 treatments, but if you have severe veins, it can take up to 10. For best results, we often combine sclerotherapy with laser therapy to help destroy the damaged vein walls more effectively.

While spider vein and varicose vein treatment can significantly reduce the appearance of your veins within a few months, we might recommend regular treatments to maintain optimal results.
